FIRELINES
Book Project
2014

For six months in 2014, more than 100 large format ‘controlled burn’ photographs were scanned and edited into book form, complemented by historic, conservation and literary quotations. Two essays were written by me and added to the mix, leading to the book FIRELINES. If you are interested in learning more about its progress and publication, please contact me.

Attention to FIRELINES meant less time for exhibitions and more for presentations and special events.

Past meets future in the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago’s (MSI) 2012 Smart Home: Green + Wired exhibit.  Museum guests can tour a real, functioning three-story, modular and sustainable “green” home—built right in the Museum’s backyard—that also highlights unique eco-friendly technologies for the 21st century.

The Museum welcomes back furnishing store Scout and its owner Larry Vodak, to create a whole new look in 2012’s exhibit home, which features unique pieces that have been repurposed in amazing ways.  These items from the past are complimented by technologies from the future and high-tech gadgets courtesy of technology partner, Gizmodo.

Smart Home: Green + Wired is a must-see exhibit for anyone who wants their home, and life, to be smarter, more efficient and more in tune with the environment than it is today. The exhibit runs through Jan. 6, 2013. To learn more and purchase tickets, visit msichicago.org. Smart Home: Green + Wired is proudly sponsored by ComEd and Allstate Insurance Company.

From a bottle toting fox to albino squirrels, a provocative, disturbing and sometimes humorous series depicting animals converted to household trophies and playful tableaux, is on display at Images Gallery. The photographs and diorama raise questions about our culture's use of animals as souvenirs, trophies or momento mori, evoking not only the animals' ghosts, but the ghosts of those who owned them.  Whether or not these photographs are subversive, bearing witness to our objectification of nature, not to promote the sacred but to profane the spirits of the world's dwindling species, is up to the viewer.

Each archival silver gelatin photograph is approximately 10 inches square.
